Abstract

25 years after the Journal of Communication published a special issue entitled “Ferment in the Field”, Professors Todd Gitlin, Michael Schudson and Jostein Gripsrud reflect on the state of the field of media and communications research. They discuss the conflict between critical and administrative research, the role of the intellectual in today’s society, and the quality of current research on new media.
