Sociotechnical Scale| Sociotechnical Scales for Navigating the Polycrisis: Method, Transformation, Normativity, and Imagined Futures—Introduction

Abstract

Faced with the myriad social, economic, political, and technological upheavals driving the polycrisis, scholars and activists alike search for new ways to understand and create change. One of those ways is through the lens of scale, the focus of this Forum. Here we frame the study of scale, review its varied normative dynamics, propose scalar shifts as analytical and empirical methods, demonstrate the value of interdisciplinary inquiries into scale, and categorize the Forum’s essays into examinations of sociotechnical scale as method, transformation, normativity, and imagined futures.
